Brownie Batter
  1. 1 stick butter, cut into pieces
  2. 3 ounces semisweet chocolate (I use 3/4 of a Ghirardelli bar)
  3. 1 cup sugar
  4. 2 eggs
  5. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  6. 2/3 cup flour
Cheesecake Batter
  1. 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  2. 1/3 cup sugar
  3. 1 egg yolk
  4. 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  5. *Add 1/3 cup semisweet chocolate chips if you wish
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. For brownie batter: Melt butter and chocolate together in a double broiler (placing mixing bowl over boiling water). Remove from heat and add sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined. Whisk in flour and spread in buttered 8X8 baking dish. For cheesecake batter: mix ingredients in bowl until smooth. Dollop over brownie batter and using a knife, swirl mixture together. Sprinkle with chocolate chips if you wish, and bake for 35 minutes. I always let these brownies chill completely before cutting them, or else they tend to fall apart.
